Cao Fei
1978 年生于广州，现生活工作于北京。毕业于广州美术学院，现任教于中央美术学院。曹斐持续关注时代发展中大众文化、科技进步和城市变迁下复杂的社会压力；其作品试图探讨当代日常生活、年轻文化，以及个体的主观性和欲望，与集体和社会现实之间的矛盾与纠缠。同时，她的作品融合社会评论、流行美学，参考超现实主义并运用纪录片拍摄手法，反映当代中国社会急速不安的变化。随着曹斐的创作在记录现实与虚构叙事之间的自由切换，她将关注的目光转向当代生活和社会系统所依赖的数字基础设施 —— 对人类越发不可或缺，或被认为理所当然的数字化生活，其背后那些生产场所和工作状态展开探讨。
近期重要个展包括：“曹斐：潮汐宙合”（浦东美术馆，上海，2024）；“曹斐：时代的舞台”（UCCA 尤伦斯当代艺术中心，北京，2021）；“曹斐：超新星”（国立二十一世纪艺术博物馆，罗马，2021）；“蓝图”（蛇形美术馆，伦敦，2020）；“HX”（蓬皮杜中心，巴黎，2019）；“Cao Fei”（MoMA PS1，纽约，2016）。她曾获得过多个艺术奖项，包括 Hugo Boss 艺术奖及未来一代艺术奖（2010）、CCAA 中国当代艺术奖的最佳青年艺术家奖项（2006）、最佳艺术家奖（2016）和昆卡双年展的 Piedra de Sal 奖（2016）。此外，曹斐曾担任 2014 年第八届柏林双年展策展人遴选委员会评委，2016 年荷兰博尼范登当代艺术奖评委，2019 年 Hugo Boss 亚洲新锐艺术家大奖评委，以及劳斯莱斯 “缪斯” 全球艺术项目艺术家遴选委员会提名人，2021 年担任 CHANEL NEXT PRIZE 评委。

Born in Guangzhou, 1978, Cao Fei currently lives and works in Beijing. Graduated from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, now she is a professor and a master advisor of the School of Experimental Art at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. She stays focusing on the complicated social stress in the context of mass culture, technological advancement and transformation of cities that are occurring right now; her body of works is an attempt to explore the contemporary daily life, youth culture, as well as the conflicts and entanglements of individual subjectivity and desires with collectivity and social reality. Additionally, she mixes social commentary, popular aesthetics, references to Surrealism, and documentary conventions in her films and installations. Her works reflect on the rapid and developmental changes that are occurring in Chinese society today. As Cao’s creation switches freely between the documentation of reality and the fictional narrative, she turns attention to the digital infrastructure, on which contemporary life and social system are based, in other words, the increasingly indispensable digital life being taken for granted, and explores its production and working mechanism behind.
Recent solo exhibitions include: “Cao Fei: Tidal Flux” (Museum of Art Pudong, Shanghai, 2024), “Staging the Era” (the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, 2021), “Cao Fei: Supernova” (the MAXXI, the National Museum of 21st Century Arts, Rome, 2021), “Blueprints” (the Serpentine Galleries, London, 2020), “HX” (the Centre Pompidou, Paris, 2019), “Cao Fei” (MoMA PS1, New York, 2016). She is also recipient of many important awards, including the finalist of the Hugo Boss Prize and Future Generation Art Prize in 2010, Chinese Contemporary Art Awards (CCAA) Best Young Artist (2006) and Best Artist (2016), as well as the Piedra de Sal Award of the Cuenca Biennale (2016). She was also on the jury of the Selection Committee for the Curatorship of the 8th Berlin Biennale (2014), the jury of the Bonnefanten Award for Contemporary (2016), and the jury of Hugo Boss Asia Art Prize (2019), the nominator of the Rolls-Royce Art Program Muse (2019) and the jury of Chanel Next Prize (2021).
Cao Fei’s solo exhibition Dash is on view at Fondazione Prada in Milan from April 9 to September 28, 2026.
