Born in Guiyang, 1990, He Zike currently lives and works in Beijing and Guiyang. She graduated from the Department of Future Media Art, Central Academy of Fine Arts with master’s degree in 2018, and studied media art at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, Germany, in 2017. In 2012, she graduated from the Communication University of China with bachelor’s degree in Digital Film Making. Her works present personal and temporal perception in the flow of information and the technological environment, which may allude to malfunctions, disruptions, and catastrophes that lie behind the seemly well-ordered surface. Her recent projects are often expanded and developed from specific databases, material repositories, as well as personal and collective memory, examining daily lives in the spheres of infrastructure, deep time, electronics, artificial intelligence, and storage medium. Walking on the edges of different frames, the narrative approach often takes the central place. Most of her works take the form of video, writing, installation, and computer programs.
Her recent major exhibitions include: “AI Delivered: The Abject” (Chronus Art Center, Shanghai, 2021), “Hic Sunt Leones” (798 Art Center, Beijing / Surplus Space, Wuhan, 2019), “Lying Sophia & Mocking Alexa” (HYUNDAI Motor Studio, Beijing, 2019 / Yuz Museum, Shanghai, 2020), “Gender Travel ”(Hongcheon Musuem, Korea, 2019), “Sichtbarkeit” (Museum für Neue Kunst, Freiburg, Germany, 2017), “Moments and More: Documents of Culture Pavilion Wen Hua Guan Online Project” (OCAT, Shanghai, 2017), “Why the Performance?” (Ming Contemporary Art Museum, Shanghai, 2016), “Are You Normal?” (Boers-Li Gallery, Beijing, 2016), etc. She is supported by the 5th VH Award of Hyundai Motor Group as one of the five finalists, and selected to participate the residency program of Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council in 2023. She also co-initiated the interdisciplinary project “Under the Cloud”, which visits and studies the technological infrastructure in Southwest China.
