Born in Liaoning, 1990, Jiayu Liu currently lives and works in Beijing and London. She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2014, and founded the Jiayu’s Studio in the same year, which is dedicated to the creative practice and research of new media art. Her artwork often recreates and augments the natural world and focuses on relationships between humans, nature, and the lived environment, exploring human behavior and response. Under the constantly updated technology, using different media, material, and digital technologies, her installations become immersive portals through which one can be transported between the superimposition of real and virtual, physical and digital, and material and immaterial worlds. Her installations enable new communication nodes with audiences using live and static streams of data and digital technologies. The audience’s behavioral response and emotional resonance are aroused through spatial collage and displacement, making her creation repeatedly “re-created” by audiences.

Recent solo exhibitions include: “Waves of Code” (Cc Foundation & Art Centre, Shanghai, 2023); “The Sea Wall” (Raiden INST online virtual exhibition, 2022). She has exhibited internationally in museums and festivals, including: the V&A in London; the chi K11 art space, K11 MUSEA in Hong Kong; He Xiangning Art Museum, Guan Shanyue Art Museum, Sea World Culture and Arts Center (SWCAC) in Shenzhen; CAFA Art Museum, Times Art Museum, Today Art Museum, UCCA Lab in Beijing; Powerlong Art Museum， OCAT， MoCA, UCCA Edge in Shanghai; and the 59th Venice Biennale, London Design Festival, Kinetica Art Fair London, London Fashion Week, Chengdu Biennale, Wuhan Biennale, Jinan Biennale, Beijing Media Art Biennale, Guangzhou Triennial, etc.
