Born in Dali, Yunnan, 1975, Su Yabi still lives and works there. She graduated from Yunnan Art University in 1998. She takes the daily objects around her as the motifs of painting, and extends the depictions into metaphors for daily life. From the process of depicting these objects, she grasps the subtle spiritual power, which contains an inherent poetic quality susceptible to be obliterated and abused. By constantly depicting and shaping the dissociated state of these daily objects, Su exiles them from the space of daily life and turns them into a kind of resistance based on the spectacle society, as well as a practice of escaping for freedom.

Su has recently presented in the major group exhibitions, including: “At the Same Time” (Yunnan Museum, Kunming, 2013), The 3rd Guiyang Art Biennale (Guiyang Museum, 2007), “My Drawer” (Liao Wen Studio, Beijing, 2007), “Yunnan Art University” (Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts, Hanoi, 2002).
