Born in Shenzhen, 1992, Tan Jing currently lives and works between Jingdezhen and Shenzhen. She obtained her BA in Chelsea College of Art in 2015 and MA at the Royal College of Art in 2017. She experiments with textures, materials, and forms within sculpture and installation, through which she often combines the unpredictable composition of materials and techniques, with the whimsical intertwist of biological matters and folklore. Tan uses objects to create scenarios of the surreal within the space, striking the viewer aesthetically and psychologically, making visible and sensible the trauma and solitude of individuals in societies.

In November 2023, Tan presented her first institutional solo exhibition “Tan Jing: Inlet of Arid Dreams” in the Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai. Recent exhibitions include: “Trancing Lap Hung” (HB Station, Guangzhou, 2022), “Magic Square: Art and Literature in Mirror Image” (Beijing Art Biennale, 2022), “Curtain” (Para Site, Hong Kong, 2021), “Study of Things.
