Wu Yiyao

Wu Yiyao is a contemporary art practitioner, writer, and comics researcher based in Beijing. Her work centers on affective states that have yet to be named in language, attending to overlooked forms of everyday experience—including marginalized and folded layers of history where individual conditions are obscured, women’s emotional experiences in processes of growth and intimacy, and latent anxieties embedded in urban space and consumer culture. Working across comics and contemporary art, she examines how these experiences are translated into perceptible forms through panels, materials, and spatial arrangements, while also tracing the structural conditions that have rendered them historically invisible.

Wu Yiyao currently works at UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, where she is engaged in the development of public programs. She has participated in the planning and organization of nearly one hundred public programs centered on contemporary art and broader cultural issues, spanning UCCA’s various venues. Wu Yiyao received her B.A. in French Language and Literature from Nanjing University in 2019 (with a minor in Art and Cultural Innovation), and her M.A. in Art History from the University of Strasbourg in 2021.
